Arrive to Paro –Thimphu On the arrival at Paro International Airport, the representative from Authentic Bhutan Tours will warmly welcome & greet you and we will drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The drive will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes along a river valley, past small villages and traditional farmhouses, through the sound of the peaceful river flowing of Paa chu and Thim-chu. It is a small & charming capital city located in the heart of the Himalayas. On reaching Thimphu, we can have lunch in one of the restaurants. After lunch, visit Memorial Chorten, built in 1974 in the memory of third king Jigme Dorji Wangchuk and the temple inside gives good examples of tantric Buddhism and its philosophy. Big Buddha Point is a gigantic ShakyamuniBuddha statueunder construction in the mountains of Thimphu valley. The Buddha Dordenma is sited amidst the ruins of Kuensel Phodrang, the palace of Sherab Wangchuck, the thirteenth Druk Desi. Upon completion, it will be one of the largest Buddha in the world, at a height of 169 feet (51.5 meters). Mothithang mini-zoo, to see the National Animal of Bhutan (Takin). The Takin (Budorcas Taxicolor) as a National Animal of Bhutan is attributed to a legend of the animal’s creation in Bhutan in the 15th century by Lama Drukpa Kunley. In the evening, stroll around Thimphu city, visit Tashichho Dzong, seat of the National Government and the Central Monastic Body, including the summer residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan). Dinner and overnight stay. Day 02. Thimphu Halt After having breakfast, visit to Paper Factory, the Bhutanese Desho paper factory in Bhutan, weaving center, the hand woven clothes. Then, visit to Changgangkha temple, founded in 12th century by great Lama Phajo Drukgom Zhipo and visit to Drupthop nunnery, the place which was founded in 15th century and later built in the year 1976 by Reki Jigdrel. Lunch will be serving in one of the restaurants in Thimphu. After having lunch, drive to Mothithang mini-zoo to see the National Animal of Bhutan (Takin). The Takin(Budorcas Taxicolor) as a National Animal of Bhutan is attributed to a legend of the animal’s creation in Bhutan in the 15th century by Lama Drukpa Kunley. Then hike to Sangyegang Cross hike, the hike will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes through the beautiful pine forest. Through this hike, we can see the beautiful valley Thimphu city. Evening at leisure, dinner and overnight stay. Day 03. Thimphu – Wangdi Phodrang/Punakha After having breakfast, we will drive to Wangdi/Punakha, over Dochula Pass, 3150m above the sea level. While reaching Dochula, if the weather is clear you can see the Himalayan Mountains of Bhutan including the highest mountain of Bhutan, the Gankar Puensum (7554m), which is the unclimbed mountain in Bhutan. The drive will take around 3hours and 30minutes and lunch will be served on the way to Wangdi Phodrang/ Punakha. On reaching Lobesa, hike to Chimme Lhakhang, which was founded in the 15th century by Devin madman Drukpa Kuenley. The hike will take around 1hour and 30minutes for too and forth. Then, we will continue our journey to Punakha, on reaching Punakha, visit Punakha Dzong, built in the year 1637 by the great unifier of Bhutan, Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. The seat of the administrative and religious body, including the winter residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan). Dinner and overnight stay. Day 04. Wangdi Phodrang/Punakha – Bumthang After having breakfast, we will drive to Bumthang over Pelela(3420m) and Yotongla(3425m) above the sea level and pass through Trongsa valley. Trongsa is a town and capital of Trongsa District in central Bhutan. The name means “new village” in Dzongkha. The drive will take around 9hours to reach Bumthang. Lunch will be on the way to Bumthang. On reaching Trongsa, visit Trongsa Ta-Dzong, the national museum of Bhutan, which means “watchtower”, built by Choeje Minjur Tenpa, the first governor of Trongsa, in the year 1652. The tower stood guard over the Trongsa Dzong to protect the main stronghold of the town from any external threats. The museum was opened in 2008, in celebration of three auspicious occasions: enthronement of the fifth King, recognition of 100 years of Monarchy and introduction of democracy in the country. The museum showcases some of the rare and priceless artifacts belonging to the monarchy. Then we will continue our drive to Bumthang and on reaching Chumey, visit Chumey Yathra factory, the woolen cloth production in Bhutan. Again we will continue our drive to Bumthang through Korela Pass 3280m, above the sea level. Dinner and overnight stay. Day 05. The pass is adorned with 108 small stupas and many kinds of prayer flags. Then the road descends through lush forests to the fertile valley of Punakha & Wangdi Phodrang. Again the road will slowly ascend until Lawala passes. You may spot yaks grazing along the roadside by Lawala Pass. The road descends through semi-tropical vegetation and an alpine environment, with rhododendron trees and dark green dwarf bamboo. On reaching Gangtey, we will have our lunch. Phobjikha – Bumthang and then descends through semi-tropical vegetation and an alpine environment, with rhododendron trees and dark green dwarf bamboo. You will stop by at Chendebji Chhorten, the chorten is patterned after Swayambhunath in Kathmandu and was built in the 19th century to cover the remains of an evil spirit that was killed at this spot. As you enter Trongsa valley, the huge fortress of Trongsa Dzong, the most impressive dzong in Bhutan appears on the far side of a deep valley and visit this Dzon on arrival. Then we will visit the Tower of Trongsa-Religion and Power in Bhutan. The Tower of Trongsa is a museum in which aspects of Bhutanese culture and history are explained by beautiful objects, while for others it is a sacred place of encounter with the gods. Lunch will be served at the Tower of Trongsa’s café . Then drive to Bumthang through the hairpin bends with the dense forest of rhododendron, conifers, alder and oak crossing Yotong La, 3425m. The road then comes out into a wide-open cultivated valley – which is the Chumey Valley, the first of Bumthang’s four valleys. From here the road goes on straight until we see Jakar Dzong and then drops into bends before straightening out again in the main valley at Chamkhar.
