The following are a few frequently asked questions by our clients regarding Bhutan tourism and the current condition. Check these out to learn more about how we can help you combat your stress after the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • How Bhutan has been affected by COVID-19 pandemic?

Until now, Bhutan has Six confirmed cases of COVID-19. The first case was detected on 5th March, and the affected person was a 76 years old American tourist, and the second one was his 59-year-old travel partner. They traveled to Bhutan via India. However, all their contacts were traced and repeatedly tested negative. As of now, both of the patients have been fully recovered. Four consequent cases were Bhutanese nationals who returned to Bhutan from abroad and have been quarantined in the time of testing. All their contacts were tracked and tested negative. Four of the patients are recovering eventually.

  • Is traveling to Bhutan now or in the near future possible and safe?

Tourism visas starting from 6th March onwards have been suspended until further notice from the government. Travel will also remain subject to several restrictions imposed by the bordering countries via which tourists enter Bhutan. At Authentic Bhutan Tours, we are closely eyeing into the forecasts when tourism might re-open.

  • What travel restrictions are currently imposed in the transit countries?

If you do not belong to COVID-19 affected country or you haven’t traveled through any of them, then you can transit through Singapore, Bangladesh, and Thailand. India and Nepal are currently shut down for tourism as of now. In Bangladesh, Singapore, and Thailand, transit is open with restrictions for COVID-19 affected countries. In India, the tourism has been suspended until 3rd May, and in Nepal, the suspension is until 30th April.

Note: These policies might change any time with the immediate effect depending upon the situation.

  • When will traveling to Bhutan be completely hassle-free?

Predicting COVID-19 pandemic’s existence is impossible. However, we believe and hope that the travel restrictions might get lifted by September onwards. You can plan your tours to Bhutan during autumn. Here, we would suggest you not to make any non-refundable advance payments right now. Chances are there that Bhutan and the transit countries might open earlier by June or July (no guarantee though). It would be better for you to purchase tickets that can be cancelled or rescheduled.

If your trip is scheduled before the end of May, then we would suggest you reschedule it or, if not possible, then cancel. We do not think that the borders will re-open that soon! However, if your trip is planned May onwards, then there might be slight chances of Bhutan being open for tourism. Here, we would like to mention that it also depends upon the restrictions imposed in the transit countries. Stay in touch with us; we will let you know the most accurate information on the re-opening and other details.

  • What is the policy of Authentic Bhutan Tours towards COVID-19 cancellations?

We at Authentic Bhutan Tours have refunded the full amount paid for tours and flight tickets to our customers who denied rescheduling their trip. Our policy will remain intact until the situation gets back to normal officially.

We also assure you that Bhutan is safe to travel as here the people are highly disciplined, and the results are the evidence. However, we would also suggest you to come in the fall or next year to our beautiful land and experience the best of Mother Nature’s blessings.
